Kulekhani I Hydropower Station located at Dhorsing of Makwanpur via a 5.8 km headrace tunnel to a gate house which controls the flow of water to the power station. From the gate house water travels down a 1,340 m (4,400 ft) long penstock and reaches the underground power station which contains two 30 MW Pelton turbine-generators. The difference in elevation between the reservoir and the power station affords a net hydraulic head of 550 m (1,800 ft).Kulekhani-II Hydropower Station, located at Nibuwatar, Makwanpur, is a cascade of Kulekhani-I with installed capacity of 32 MW and annual design generation of 104.6 GWh. It was commissioned in 1986 and developed with assistance from OECF Japan and the Government of Nepal at a cost of Rs 124 million.
Kulekhani is a beautiful and panoramic landscape situated in Makwanpur district. Kulekhani is mainly famous for fishing, hiking, trekking and boating, hence Kulekhani has a great prospect of adventure tourism.Kulekhani can be reached from Kathmandu mainly through two ways among them first, by driving on a vehicle through the Dakshinkali- Hetauda highway and second one is by hiking about 20 km from Naubise. Boating will make you feel like you are floating upon the shiny diamond flame. The peaceful pond, boating in here will surely make you fall in love with the nature!
Kulekhani is a rock-fill dam which was made with the purpose for generating hydroelectricity - also popularly know as IndraSarovar. While visiting Chitlang, on the way we can stop there and enjoy the beautiful scene around. Many of can go to boating which available by paying about NPR 200/person. The lake water is very clean and the scene around is truly mesmerizing. These facilities have been added in recent years and it is attracting more and more tourist. There is also a small restaurants which is good enough to find common food and drinks. However knowing the increasing popularity, there is enough potentiality to develop is further - at least building some temp huts on the bend of lake for tourist to take rest and protect them from sun can add beach chair and have some small drinks and nibbles shops around.
Early morning drive from Kathmandu will take us 1 hr to reach Matatirtha. Hike through forest and lunch on the way we reach the beautiful village of Chitlang in approximately 3 hrs. Today we will explore Chitlang which contain first goat cheese factory and spend overnight here in Chitlang hills.
After early morning breakfast start your hike towards Kulekhani from Chitlang hill which will approximately take 3-4 hrs, lunch at Kulekhani and trek towards Dakshinkali temple, by the evening time you drive towards Kathmandu on our private vehicle.
